Story

At the turn of the past and present centuries, the telegraph was the main type of electrical communication.

As a result of incredibly difficult organizational measures for the resettlement of the hospital, the manufacture of educational furniture and the first laboratory stands, in October of the year the first one was produced after the liberation of Odessa from fascist invaders admission to the Institute of 60 students.

Students lived and studied in institute classrooms. The dilapidated building of the student dormitory on Manezhnaya Street was temporarily provided to teachers who were returning to the institute, and the headquarters of the OdVO was located in the house on Ostrovidova Street. Shortly after the war, the legendary Marshal of Victory G.K. Zhukov worked there, as evidenced by the bas-relief installed on the house.

The war ended victoriously Nazi Germany. But not everyone returned from the war. Many teachers and students gave their lives for their Motherland. The monument to signalers, built near the main building at the expense of employees and students, is a tribute to the memory of the living to the memory of the dead.

Front-line students brought an atmosphere of discipline and responsibility into the institute life. This helped in organizing the educational process in the difficult post-war period and had a positive effect on the next generation of students.

In 1999, the management of the Institute was entrusted to Associate Professor Pishkin Ivan Petrovich.

Under his leadership, in 1954, one of the first experimental television centers in the USSR, which served Odessa, was built from captured radio components by the forces of students and teachers.

Throughout its history, the Institute has paid great attention to physical education students. Sports individual and team victories at competitions of the most diverse rongs have established an outstanding sporting glory for the institute. He put a lot of effort into this post-war period head of the department of physical education and sports, former tank officer B. D. Fraktman.

Near educational process research work was revived and actively expanded. Suffice it to recall the creation in 1959 of a suburban scientific test site, which is located on five hectares of land, and the NNR "Meteor" under the leadership of A. I. Khachaturov, where they started their scientific activity leading scientists of the academy.

Odessans and numerous guests of our city enjoy listening to the music of I. O. Dunayevsky, which sounds from the Odessa chimes, which were created at the institute in 1959. The work of the chimes has become a kind of symbol of Odessa.

Start academic work in the new premises (September 1953) was an important, turning point in the life of the institute, to a certain extent, its new birth. Students who entered the institute in 1954 began to study in the new building. Their graduation in 1959 gave the most significant results in the history of the institute: 7 doctors and 46 candidates of technical sciences. The work of some of them was awarded the State Prize (I. Dezhurniy, A. Shutko), the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (A. Zhadan), the Gold Medal of the VDNKh of the USSR (A. Kogut).

The Institute is rightfully proud of such graduates as Lenin Prize laureates A. A. Bolshoi, V. G. Popov, N. F. Lukonin, L. M. Kosoy, State Prize laureates S. M. Plakhotnik, V. I. Korol, V. N. Timofeev, A. I. Romanov.

In 1953, a correspondence faculty was established at the institute, in 1956 - an evening faculty, in 1962 - the Kishinev UKP, in 1967 the Kyiv correspondence faculty, on the basis of which Kyiv Institute connections. Since 1965, a specialized council has been operating at the Institute for the defense of Ph. Since that time, 151 PhD theses have been defended.

In 1967, by the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, the institute was named after the inventor of radio, A. S. Popov. And in 1980 for the successes achieved in the training of communications engineers and the development scientific research, The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR awarded the Institute with a Certificate of Merit.

In -1981, the doctor of technical sciences, professor Boris Petrovich Kutasin was in charge. From 1981 to 2001, the institute, and then the academy, was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Ivan Pavlovich Panfilov. In 2001, the rector of the ONAT named after. A. S. Popov was elected Professor Petr Petrovich Vorobienko.
