The best technical universities in Russia are determined based on many factors. Among them:

  • Demand for graduates abroad.
  • The number of teachers with a scientific degree (above a master's degree).
  • The number of specialties available for students to master.
  • Reviews of organizations that employ graduates.
  • The state of the base of the educational institution, both technical and material.
  • The number of applicants to enter the university.

All of the above gives an objective idea of what place this or that educational institution should take in the list of the best in the country. It is worth considering the nuance that it is rather difficult to assess the weight of each parameter, so the rating of technical universities in Russia can be found in various versions. MOSCOW, December 12 - RIA Novosti. National ranking universities of the Russian Federation, which shows their demand from Russian economy, presented on Tuesday, December 12 by the MIA project "Russia Today".

In 2017, the study included 448 universities from 81 subjects of the Russian Federation. The assessment of universities was carried out according to such criteria as the demand for trained specialists by employers, the commercialization of the intellectual product produced by the university, as well as the demand for a research product.

The university demand rating includes state, departmental, municipal and private universities that provide training in basic and additional programs higher education. Among them are 127 engineering universities, 89 classical universities, 54 agricultural universities, 61 management universities, 69 humanitarian universities and 48 medical universities. The study did not include branches, higher religious educational institutions, universities in the field of culture and military profile.

As the results showed this study, according to the ratio of "the share of graduates who received a job placement" agricultural universities of the country are in the lead - almost 68 percent of graduates get a job placement. The least demanded by employers are graduates of universities in the field of management (economics, finance, law, 28.6%).

According to the indicator "share of funds in the budget of the university from scientific research", as expected, engineering universities of the country are in the lead (on average 15.6% of the budget of universities). More modest (almost one and a half times) indicators for medical and agricultural universities - 9.1% and 8.2%, respectively. The most low average values for liberal arts universities (7.7).

If we consider the "citation index of the works of employees of the organization", then the gap between different types institutions of higher education is not so obvious: the maximum indicators are in classical universities (11.9%) and medical universities (11.7%), and the minimum - in the humanities (8.6%).

Among engineering universities ( technical universities), which are most widely represented in this study, the leader is the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI. The second line of the ranking is occupied by St. Petersburg National Research University information technologies, mechanics and optics. In third place is Moscow State Technical University named after N.E. Bauman.

The leader of the ranking among classical universities, as in the previous year, was the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. In second place is the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin. The National Research Tomsk State University closes the top three.

In the nomination "agricultural universities", as in the past year, the Stavropol State agricultural university and Kuban State Agrarian University.

The Russian School of Economics, the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences and the National Research University Higher School of Economics became the leaders in terms of demand among the universities of economics, finance and law.

The first places among the humanitarian (pedagogical and philological) universities were taken by the Orthodox St. Tikhon University for the Humanities, Moscow city Pedagogical University and Russian State Pedagogical University. A.I. Herzen.

In the nomination "medical universities" the Nizhny Novgorod State medical Academy, Russian National Research medical University named after N.I. Pirogov and the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov.

According to the head of the "Social Navigator" project of MIA "Russia Today" Natalia Tyurina, this study is of genuine interest not only among employers, but also among Russian applicants. “The rating has proven itself well, for the second year in a row it shows high readability and demand: many young people choose their educational trajectory based on it,” she noted.

At the same time, as the expert emphasized, it is not entirely correct to compare the results of last year's rating with the results of this year. " main reason in that the current rating fixes the result of the past restructuring and optimization of the network of higher educational institutions in Russia," she explained. Thus, according to Rosobrnadzor, the network has halved since 2014, which means that the rating base itself has become different.

The change in the network led to the fact that whole line universities, which in 2016 occupied worthy positions, left the “tops” in 2017. Thus, according to Natalia Tyurina, the rating for the first time demonstrates measurements of the changed network.

This opinion is shared by the scientific director of the Privolzhsky branch Federal Institute development of education, scientific supervisor of this study Efim Kogan. Commenting on the results, he noted that the purpose of the rating is not so much to show "a place in the ranks" as to declare adherence to the criteria for assessing the conditions and results of the organization's activities. "The creation of the 2017 university ranking according to the criteria of the previous year takes into account the changes that have taken place in the list of the country's universities for a variety of reasons - reorganization, suspension or revocation of a license, etc.," he stressed.

At the same time, experts pay attention to the stability of leadership groups. According to them, this means that Russian system higher education in terms of its characteristics as a whole is sustainable.

Ratings of prestigious technical universities in Russia

During the entire time of its existence, the institutes did not stop fighting for the high title of the best educational institution. From year to year, educational institutions were eager to justify their superiority. For such a "competition" experts have developed a number of criteria that determine the prestige of the university.

The top of the best technical universities in Russia is compiled by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, various regulatory services in the field of education and science, the Expert and Interfax agencies. The quality of teaching (based on feedback from students and graduates of a particular university), academic support for students, tuition costs, the number of students per member are evaluated. teaching staff, the ratio of those who, after university, got a job in their specialty / not in their specialty / became unemployed, the average score for admission, and so on.

It is mandatory for applicants and their parents to have such information.

What are the criteria to determine the best technical university in the country

The best technical institutes of the Russian Federation are determined based on a large number of criteria, for example:

  • the demand for graduates outside the country (within the framework of exchange programs);
  • the number of teachers with scientific degree(above master);
  • the number of specialties that are available for students to master;
  • reviews of companies and enterprises in which university graduates were employed;
  • technical equipment, the base of the educational institution;
  • the number of applicants who would like to enter a particular university.

The list of technical universities in Russia has a huge number of educational institutions, so in order to navigate in best universities, it is better to use the official ratings. There are several variations of rankings, because the methods for compiling top universities also differ. At the same time, you should not discount the educational institution you like, if the rating of technical universities in Russia placed such an institution far from the first position. It is important to get as much information as possible, but at the same time take into account your own preferences, goals and priorities.

The lists are updated, as a rule, annually. Institutions strengthen or weaken their own positions by a certain number of units. But still, the top universities in most sources are represented by the same educational institutions, and the ratings do not differ too dramatically.

Top 5 Technical Universities

All technical institutes of the Russian Federation have a serious rival, who has been in the top for a long time. This is Lomonosov Moscow State University. Other adherents of the "five" are:

  1. Moscow Research Technical University. N. E. Bauman. An exceptionally technical institution of higher education, the 1st in the Russian Federation. To enter this university, a student must score USE results over 250 points. As in Moscow State University, applicants from all over Russia come to study here.
  2. MISiS. National Research Technological University. In 2016, MISiS became the best "tiny" university in Russia. By the way, this is the only institute from the CIS that was included in the Times Higher Education rating. The key condition for a place in the ranking was the number of students. At the time of compiling the list, only 4,441 students studied at MISiS.
  3. MEPhI. The Research Nuclear University entered the category of the best almost ten years ago. Education here is possible both on the state and on a contractual basis (that is, both “on the budget” and “on a contract”). MEPhI students are strong in the fields of physics and technology and cybernetics.
  4. St. Petersburg Polytechnic University of Peter the Great. This is one of the oldest educational institutions in our country; the date of foundation of the university is considered to be 1899.

All these state technical universities in Russia provide high quality education. In addition, educational institutions are distinguished by qualified teaching staff. All of the above technical universities in Russia with budget places and the possibility of paid education give students up-to-date knowledge, fully prepare for subsequent work in the relevant specialties.

Lomonosov Moscow State University

This institution also occupies an honorable first place in some foreign ratings. Founded more than 200 years ago, for the entire time of its existence, this institute was able to get to the leading lines. Directions for training students: several dozen specialties in various fields, from, of course, the technical field. MSU entered the top technical universities of Russia for a reason.

Studying at Moscow State University is prestigious and honorable, but being here is far from easy. Technical universities in Russia (the passing scores in the "top" educational institutions are very high) train applicants from all over the country: Vladivostok, Murmansk, Bryansk, Orel, Rostov, Irkutsk, Voronezh and other cities. The applicant is faced with a colossal passing competition, the highest passing score and the difficulties of the study itself. To study at MSU, you need to put in really a lot of effort.

MSTU named after Bauman

Students of this university receive basic education and at the same time are completely immersed in real production processes. Education in one of the best technical universities in Russia is possible both on a budgetary basis and on a contract basis. An indisputable plus of the training system at MSTU. Bauman - the practice of working at all stages of manufacturing, understanding the production cycle of products, constant contact with specialists, the ability to perform scientific work in practical terms, a gigantic motivation in gaining knowledge.

The bulk of the classes take place on the basis of companies, both employees of the institute and, for example, practitioners, outstanding specialists in the industry are involved in the teaching work. After completing their studies in their specialty, more than 70% of graduates remain to work at their “native” enterprises, where they previously had an internship.

At MSTU im. N. E. Bauman created unique, unparalleled in the domestic practice of inclusive education, suitable conditions for teaching students with disabilities and persons with disabilities.

Top 10 best technical universities in the country

The rating of the best technical universities in Russia almost always remains constant, the top 10 changes only from time to time. According to the data of the past year, the following technical institutes of the Russian Federation close the top ten:

  1. Tomsk Polytechnic University;
  2. St. Petersburg Polytechnic University;
  3. Siberian Federal University;
  4. Tyumen Oil and Gas State University;
  5. State University of Oil and Gas Gubkin.

Features of obtaining technical education

The list of technical specialties for which recruitment is carried out at the institutes of the Russian Federation is so large that it is rather difficult to cover them all. The rating of technical universities in Russia includes more than 250 specialized faculties, and there are more than a thousand technical institutes in the country.

All of them are connected into a single whole, naturally, by the educational standard. In accordance with the standard, all students study for 5 years at full-time or 6 in absentia. In the process of studying, students take courses in the humanities and social disciplines. Of course, all students will get acquainted with the lectures on natural sciences which include mathematics, linear algebra, computer and graphical modeling. But the highly specialized disciplines of the faculties of technical orientation will be completely different.

Multidisciplinary or highly specialized technical education

Discussions about where is better technical education- at a specialized university or at the department of a multidisciplinary institute - they will never fall silent. But do not be afraid of traditional institutions if the technical departments in them are competent and famous for decades. This also justifies the rating - immediately 8 such institutions were in the top 20 best.

This is often explained by the fact that such universities have a huge number of theoreticians, teachers, and practitioners, which dramatically increases the quality of education in any field, and especially in technology. Best specialized universities Russian Federation placed in more in the capital, therefore, those wishing to get an education from the regions will either have to move to Moscow for the duration of their studies, or enter their interdisciplinary institutes. True, this is not at all about Tomsk and Novosibirsk: their scientific organizations have long been at the forefront of domestic science.

In addition, in modern conditions, the line towards the expansion and expansion of higher educational institutions has already been clearly outlined. For example, technical universities in Russia are beginning to train managers and financiers, and financial universities are starting to train techies.

Moscow Technical Universities

Naturally, metropolitan institutions in many respects are ahead of regional ones in terms of the quality of education. It is best to get a specialty of a technical nature at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Here bachelors are trained at the faculties of arithmetic and cybernetics, physics and basic engineering. Besides, specialized education can be obtained at Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, MEPhI and other institutions.

It is worth considering that the passing score for budget education in them is extremely high, as is the cost contract training. If there is a dream to get a technical education in the capital, but there are not enough points, or the training looks very expensive, you can enter a less “top”, but still quite popular university.

You can try, for example, go to the Moscow State construction university. Demand for construction specialties this moment, when the whole state is everywhere built up with new housing, is unusually high. Universities that train machine builders or aircraft builders are also organized. For example, the Capital Aviation Institute.

Central regions of Russia

There are also technical universities in Central Russia that train highly qualified employees. However, these universities are not yet included in the rankings of the best technical universities. It is likely that the whole point is the proximity to the capital, where more promising applicants rush.

Northeast region of Russia

Tomsk and Novosibirsk have long been considered the stronghold of domestic science, which is proved by the positions of local higher educational institutions in all ratings. The most qualified technical specialists are taught by the Novosibirsk and Tomsk municipal institutes.

At the same time, the Novosibirsk Municipal Technical Institute in 2016 greatly reduced its position in the ranking of technical universities. Decrease in financial subsidies and scientific activity negatively affected the rating of the institution.

Technical universities in the northern capital of Russia

In the northern capital, the St. Petersburg Institute is the best. This is a traditional multidisciplinary institute, which has technical faculties - for example, mathematical and mechanical and applied arithmetic. The next is the profile institute - St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. It is firmly strengthening its position by increasing the competitiveness of its graduates in the labor market and developing research activities. ITMO Institute is a European-level university, attracting students to university and student life.

What problems are faced by technical universities of the Russian Federation?

The level of quality of education is usually high due to the continuity of scientific developments. But experts believe that the average age of teachers is the key problem. In universities and departments, it is quite high and is about 55 years old, which is 9 years higher than that of teachers in other areas.

This situation can be considered in two ways. On the one hand, this indicates a significant scientific and pedagogical experience, and on the other hand, the absence of new minds and young employees. In general, the opportunities for technical specialists are the most optimal - according to experts, there is an increased demand for professionals in technical areas with a general lack of them in the labor market. For comparison: the offer of financiers exceeds demand by 70%.

Institutes that give a good education abroad

When deciding to subsequently start working outside the territory of the Russian Federation, one should not rely only on the ratings of higher educational organizations. Foreign employers are well acquainted with the quality of education of several Russian institutions, which are among the top five in the country. It's about about the Bauman State Research Institute, located in Moscow, Research state institute in Novosibirsk, as well as the Polytechnic Research Institute, which is located in the northern capital of the country.

The most important thing you need to get a prestigious job abroad is fluency in English or another foreign language: German, French, Italian, and so on. That is why special emphasis should be placed on educational institutions with the highest level teaching English.
