Holidays are the most favorite time for students. And even those who left the walls of the school a long time ago remember the times of rest with a cheerful smile. Both students and their parents are waiting for a break in the educational process, but the autumn ones - the very first ones - are waiting with special impatience.
When does the holiday start
Many students, and their parents as well, notice that in different educational institutions autumn vacation falls at different times. The reason for this discrepancy is the learning process adopted in each particular school. The academic year can be divided either into four parts - quarters, or three - trimesters. At the end of each part, there must be a short break. The 2018-2019 academic year is no exception.
For quarter schools
The minimum time allotted for rest in the fall is one week. Schools prefer to start their holidays on Monday and end on Sunday, respectively. This facilitates the process of load distribution, plus it helps schoolchildren to adapt more easily, to get involved in learning after a break.
As a rule, in institutions with a quarter system of education, the first holidays fall in October, most often in the last week of the month. The autumn holidays 2018-2019 will not be an exception - the rest will begin on October 29. But with the start date of the second quarter, some questions may arise.
The fact is that for the autumn holidays 2018-2019 school year National Unity Day falls - an important public holiday, and therefore a general day off. It is celebrated on November 4, Sunday. According to the law on the postponement of holidays, the day after the holiday will be a day off - Monday, November 5th. Thus, the holidays are extended for another day, and instead of seven days, schoolchildren will rest for eight whole days. And if we add to this the official weekend before the start of the holiday - Saturday October 27 (if the school has a five-day period) and Sunday October 28, then schoolchildren will have a rest in the fall for nine or even ten days.
Let's summarize:
- Autumn holidays in 2018-2019 - from October 29 to November 5 inclusive.
- The last day of school in the first quarter is October 26 or 27. The second quarter will start on November 6th.
For schools with trimester education
With trimester training, calculating the start of the break is somewhat easier. In this process, rest time and study time alternate with enviable regularity: four or five weeks of study are replaced by a week off. That is, a short break in the middle of the trimester and rest at the end of the trimester. It may seem to someone that with such a system of education there are more days off than with a quarter. In fact, the total rest time in both systems is almost the same - the difference can be literally a couple of days.
Students on the trimester system will be able to relax twice in the fall - at the beginning of October and at the end of November.
- Autumn holidays 2018-2019 in the middle of the trimester - from 8 to 14 October
- Autumn holidays 2018-2019 at the end of the trimester - from November 19 to 25.
School plans: study and recreation
How is the schedule for school year? Why does the school break fall on different dates every year? Is it really impossible to write once and for all in school rules strict dates for the first and last days of rest, so as not to ask the question every year when the rest will begin? Let's try to figure it out.
The school administration finally determines the time period for which there is a break in studies. This right is reserved for educational institutions at the legislative level. The reason is simple: schools do not always have the opportunity to follow the curriculum “from and to”, clearly following every letter and every number written in the documents. In fact, sometimes force majeure circumstances occur, due to which plans have to be adjusted already in the learning process. Accidents (for example, a break in a sewer or a heat pipe), natural disasters (severe frosts or rains that threaten flooding), a state of emergency in the region, outbreaks of diseases (quarantine for influenza, for example) - there can be a lot of reasons. And in order to educational process did not suffer from force majeure, schools were left with the right to change the schedule - reducing or postponing the dates of the beginning and end of quarters or trimesters.
Before the start of the school year, the Ministry of Education issues an order specifying the total length of study time and rest time. So, in 2018-2019, a total of at least 30 days are allotted for holidays. And regardless of whether training is conducted in trimesters or quarters, students of all schools in the country for the whole year will have to rest for at least a month (not counting the summer break).
The first month of the next academic year is coming to an end. Russian schools. Schoolchildren managed to get involved in the educational process after the summer holidays, but many of them, of course, count the days until the next vacation. Autumn holidays at school in 2017: what date do they start
Most Russian schools use the same system of organization of the academic year that existed in Soviet education. Four quarters: two before the new year and two after it, which are separated by autumn, winter and spring holidays. In such schools, respectively, the autumn holidays are the same.
Schoolchildren who study in educational institutions where a different system is used - the trimester system - have a rest twice in the autumn. The trimester divides the school year not into four parts, but into three, but at the same time, schoolchildren have not less vacations, but on the contrary, more. A week of rest bisects the trimester, and another week completes the trimester.
As for the date on which the autumn holidays begin in Russian schools in 2017, then, accordingly, the date depends on which system of organizing the educational process is used by a particular school.
Trimesters in schools are still rather an exception, there are relatively many such schools, except perhaps in Moscow. For most Russian schools, the traditional autumn holidays after the first quarter are more relevant.
As you can see, the dates are quite approximate, which is due to the fact that Russian legislation has not set school holidays from above for a long time. Usually everything is decided at the level of the region, city, sometimes even a particular school. For example, the Moscow Department of Education, by its order, established autumn holidays in schools for the period from October 29 to November 6, 2017. In St. Petersburg, the local education committee has set dates from October 30 to November 7.
Formally, the difference is not so great, but in fact, since October 29 is Sunday, schoolchildren in St. Petersburg will rest longer.
Approximately on the same dates, the autumn holidays will also take place in other Russian schools, the discrepancy is unlikely to be significant. As you can see, school holidays intersect with a three-day mini-vacation, which is in November and for adults in connection with the holiday of November 4th. Both adults and children will have a rest from 4 to 6 November. Parents will go to work on November 7, schoolchildren in some cases on the same day, in some cases a little later.
As for schools that use trimesters, then, as we noted a little higher, they will have autumn holidays twice.
The dates of the autumn holidays of the 2017-2018 academic year in such schools are as follows:
- from 1 to 8 October,
- from 5 to 12 November.
Thus, in schools where the organization of the educational process takes place on the basis of the trimester system, the second autumn holidays also fall on the November holidays.
For those parents or schoolchildren who care about the exact dates when school holidays begin and end at a particular school (for example, if you are planning a family vacation, adjusting your own vacation to your child’s vacation, etc.), it’s best to contact your school’s website for more accurate information. If the school website does not contain such information, then you should contact the secretary, class teacher or other people who have official information on this. Who sets school holidays?
On the basis of studies conducted by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, recommendations were formed that allow the average Russian student to fully learn and develop in the educational process. Based on these recommendations, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation annually forms the recommended terms of study holidays for the entire academic year. The vacation schedule proposed by officials is recommended, but not final, because the last authority that determines the actual timing of the schoolwork becomes an educational institution itself. This is done in order to exclude all kinds of force majeure situations.
The academic year throughout Russia is approximately the same. It starts on September 1 and lasts until the last Friday of May. However, our country is huge and it is simply unrealistic to draw up a curriculum that would be universal for all regions. Based on this logic, it was decided to leave the right to set vacation periods for the leadership of each educational institution separately. However, parents should be aware that when forming curriculum for 2017-2018, their opinions may also be taken into account. Parental committee, can offer its own version of the terms of the academic year and holidays, with which school management is obliged to reckon with the law. But the final decision is still made by the leadership of the educational institution.
Schedule and dates of school holidays 2017–2018
Finally, all vacation dates in each educational institution in Russia will be known only by the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year, but preliminary information already now allows us to assume which days the school holidays of the next academic year will most likely take place. In addition, when forming school holidays, one should take into account the form of education in each educational institution separately. There are two such forms: quarters and trimesters.
Important! All the terms and vacation schedules indicated below are approximate, which means that in your particular school, gymnasium or lyceum, the vacation periods may differ from those given below.
Autumn holidays: training in quarters: from October 30 to November 6; training in trimesters: from October 2 to 8 and from November 13 to 19.
The winter vacation(New Year's): in this case, the form of education practically does not play a role, because children's winter rest is formed so that it coincides with the rest period for adults in honor of New Year's (tentatively from December 28 to January 10).
Spring break: quarterly training: from March 22–24 to April 1; training by trimesters: most likely from April 9 to April 16.
Summer holidays: both forms of study imply the same terms for the end of the academic year: from May 25-28 to August 31.
Holidays for first graders
Children who come to school in the first grade are most vulnerable to stressful situations that may appear in an unfamiliar school environment. For this reason, additional holidays are held for first-graders, which most often fall at the end of February (in 2018 from February 19 to February 26). 
It is during this period that children often feel more tired, more often get sick. To avoid such phenomena, school management has the right to organize additional holidays for first graders, which, however, can also be canceled or have different start and end dates - it all depends on the decision of the school management.

School holidays: schedule for the 2017-2018 academic year
Every year, the Ministry of Education draws up and brings to the attention of regional educational institutions the schedule of school holidays. Why is this work carried out annually? It's all about weekends and holidays - making the first day of vacation, for example, Sunday or some kind of public holiday, is not very logical, is it? Therefore, a new schedule is drawn up for each academic year - with new dates calculated in accordance with the calendar.
Both parents and students should be aware that the schedule is advisory in nature. That is, officials from the ministry can only indicate the approximate dates for the beginning and end of the holidays, but when exactly the days of the cherished rest begin is determined by the order of the school. Thus, vacation days may differ in different educational institutions, even if schools conduct classes according to the same program.
The mandatory rules include only that school holidays should begin on Monday and not be "shifted" from the recommended dates by more than two weeks in any direction.
The schedule for the 2017-2018 academic year has not yet been drawn up. Typically, such documents are made public about six months before the start of the school days, that is, for the 2017-2018 academic year, the schedule will appear in the spring of 2017. However, we can easily derive the days of the beginning and end of the holidays on our own - it is enough to take past dates as a basis and take into account holidays and weekends.
Holidays for schools studying in quarters
So, the approximate schedule of school holidays for the 2017-2018 academic year for schools that teach in quarters.
- Autumn vacation. End of October - early November.
The date of the end of the autumn holidays is affected by National Unity Day, celebrated on November 4th. Since this holiday falls on a Saturday in 2017, the day off will be moved to Monday 6 November.
Approximate dates of autumn holidays: 28.10. - 06.11. (inclusive).
- The winter vacation. The end of December - the first decade of January.
The dates of the winter holidays are the same for both types of education - both for quarters and for trimesters. At the same time, school holidays coincide with rest days on New Year- the first working day after the holidays usually falls on January 9-10.
Approximate dates of winter holidays - 25.12. – 09.01.
For first-graders who are just starting to get used to school regulated life, additional vacations have been introduced.
Additional winter holidays: 19.02. – 25.02.
- Spring Break. End of March - early days of April.
During this period, there are no public holidays, and therefore the first and last days of the holidays depend solely on the weekend.
Approximate spring break dates: 26.03. – 01.04.
- Summer vacation. From the first to the last day of the summer months.
Holidays by trimester
With the trimester system of education, the situation is similar - the Ministry of Education has not yet prepared recommendations on the dates for the start of school holidays. However, in this case, it is much easier to calculate vacation time: in such schools, education is based on the 5 + 1 principle. That is, five weeks of training (sometimes six) alternate with a week of vacation. 35 days of study, then 7 days of vacation - and the cycle repeats again.
The only exceptions are winter, or rather, New Year's holidays. This rest time in schools with a trimester system coincides with holidays in ordinary schools where training is built on the principle of quarters.
Approximate vacation dates in schools with a trimester system of education:
- Autumn vacation. In autumn, schoolchildren studying in trimester schools have two vacation periods:
the first period - 09.10. - 15.10.;
the second period - 20.11. - 26.11.
- The winter vacation. The period of the New Year holidays almost completely coincides with the period in ordinary schools:
the first period - 25.12. – 08.01.
the second period - 19.02. – 25.02.
- Spring Break. In the spring, schoolchildren have only one vacation week:
the first period - 09.04. – 15.04.
- Summer vacation. The time of the longest vacation does not depend on the principle on which schooling is built:
period - 01.06. – 31.08.
The exact dates of the summer holidays are 01.06. – 31.08.
Schoolchildren who communicate with peers from other cities of Russia notice that the start and end dates of vacations often do not coincide. Why is this happening? One country, one specialized agency that manages the learning process is the Ministry of Education, and school holidays in 2017-2018 in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of Russia begin at different times.
The thing is that the educational process can take place in schools in different ways. Some educational institutions are engaged exactly according to the established plan, not ahead of or behind school curriculum. Others may fall behind the curriculum due to various force majeure circumstances. 
Learning can be hindered by a variety of factors. So, for example, for schoolchildren in Siberia, it is not unusual for an announcement like: "Today, due to severe frosts, schoolchildren from the first to the eleventh grade do not study." Due to low temperatures, strong winds, snowstorms or blizzards, the municipal Department of Education may announce the cancellation of classes. Depending on the weather conditions, classes can be skipped only by elementary grades, and the entire school as a whole. Less frequent, but also not out of the ordinary, is the announcement of the cancellation of classes due to spring floods. Most of the reasons for missing school are force majeure occurring due to circumstances beyond the control of the Department of Education.
If there are only a few such "force majeure" days in a year - usually three to five, then there is an opportunity to "catch up" with the curriculum. However, when there are quite a lot of such "passes" - from a week or more, then the school administration has to take unpopular measures among schoolchildren and reduce or postpone school holidays.
This force majeure is the reason why the right to set the time of rest is left to the school principal, and not regulated by a direct order of the ministry.
Additional holidays in 2017-2018 academic year
Unforeseen holidays are a great joy for most schoolchildren, while their reasons are not at all cheerful.
Assign additional vacations or shift the planned dates for the following reasons:
Very coldy. At -25, lessons are canceled at primary school, at -28 in the middle, and, at -30, in the senior classes;
If the air temperature in the classrooms falls below +18;
Exceeding the epidemiological threshold for a particular disease.
Holidays 2017-2018 for students
Universities have only winter and summer vacation between semesters. Moreover, unlike schools, their dates can vary significantly, depending on the curriculum of each particular institution. In addition, students need to complete a summer internship.
In most cases, winter vacations for students in 2017-2018 will fall from late January to mid-February, and summer vacations will begin in July.
Can there be innovations in the 2017-2018 academic year
Now the idea is being actively promoted that it is necessary to return to the old rules, when the dates of all vacations were the same for schools throughout the country. This is convenient for organizing olympiads, various competitions, children's conventions, etc.
In order to find out public opinion in the capital, they even conducted a survey with the following points:

Go from quarters to trimesters, increasing the duration of holidays between them;
On the contrary, break the school year into five parts, with a week's rest between them.
None of the points received a clear majority, most schools consider the current system to be correct, when they can independently adjust the vacation dates proposed by the ministry. Most likely, no significant changes are expected in the structure of the 2017-2018 academic year.

How is the school calendar formed?
The 2016-2017 academic year begins on Thursday 1 September 2016. The school year ends in all educational institutions in different ways: from May 24, 25 or 30, 2017.
As a rule, the first day of school holidays starts from the beginning of the school week, that is, from Monday. The period of school holidays in the educational period is directly affected by the way of teaching in a particular school.
As you know, in educational institutions there are two systems of education:
- by trimesters;
- by quarters.
If the school has chosen a study schedule for trimesters, then students will study from September to May inclusive for exactly 5 weeks, after which they will rest for a week. And again 5 weeks of training and a week of vacation. The only exceptions are summer holidays and winter holidays, which in the academic year 2016-2017 include two weeks of rest for all students.
If the school has chosen the option of studying in quarters, then the following vacation schedule is set for all students:
- nine days in autumn: October - the last days, November - the first week;
- two New Year's weeks: final days December and ten January days;
- seven days of spring: the end of March;
- for pupils of correctional classes and first-graders, additional vacations are provided: seven days in winter;
- three months in summer.
Autumn, golden autumn
A wonderful autumn time gives all schoolchildren the very first school holidays. Autumn holidays will begin on October 30, but since this is Sunday, in fact, the autumn holidays will come on October 31, and the last day of rest will be November 6.
With trimester training, in the autumn period, children will be gifted with two weeks of rest:
- first week - October 10-16, 2016;
- the second week - November 21-27, 2016.
Festive New Year's winter
In the middle of the school year, it's time to take a little break. It is in winter that many parents arrange a family vacation with a trip to the sights, interesting places, or even travel abroad.
Many prefer warm countries to the frosty Russian winter and go on New Year's holidays, for example, to Egypt or Tunisia. Winter holidays include two wonderful, truly magical holidays - New Year and Christmas. This is a time of miracles and fun, and you need to spend it in such a way that there are enough memories and impressions for the whole year.
The academic year 2016-2017 will begin exactly on December 26, 2016 and will last until January 9, 2017. Already on January 10, schoolchildren will have to return to their desks in order to continue to storm knowledge with renewed vigor.

The spring respite will start on March 27th and end on April 3rd. During this time, you need to gain strength before the crucial stage of the 2017 academic year.
When choosing a trimester form of education by the school administration, spring vacation will start on April 5 and will last until April 11.
Hot long-awaited summer
In the summer, children are entitled to a big vacation. Already with the first warm rays of the sun, schoolchildren find it difficult to study, and even with the advent of a hot summer, all thoughts about studying disappear. As a rule, after May 25, no one really studies anymore. Summer holidays begin. This is probably the most favorite time for all students.
All schoolchildren should remember that rest during the holidays is a good thing, but we must not forget that during this period you can fill in some gaps in your knowledge and tighten your “tails”.
