English exam preparation tests. OGE and EGE. What is it and what has changed in recent years

My manuals for preparing for the GIA in English

I have already introduced you to the books on preparing for the exam in this one, there are now a large number of them - there are plenty to choose from.

But an exam in the form of a GIA in English was introduced relatively recently. Due to the fact that 9th-graders in Kazan have to take five exams (Russian, mathematics, Tatar - mandatory and two to choose from), many students are thinking about choosing English!

What should a teacher do? What benefits to choose?

Since last year, I began to intensively collect various manuals and tests that fit the GIA format and I want to note that, unlike the USE, the GIA has an oral part!

Therefore, preparation for this exam goes to all sections: listening, reading, lexical and grammatical part, writing and speaking.

Of course, a lot of books do not fit the GIA format. Here you need to be careful and for this I suggest that you first familiarize yourself with the codifier and the demo version of 2013.

But there are also wonderful benefits that I want to introduce you to and which I have tested on my students.

So I'll start with collection of oral topics, which I acquired at one of the seminars, where the young author of this book, Yury Alekseevich Smirnov, spoke.

The collection covers all topics included in the specification of the State Final Attestation in English. For convenience, the topics of the collection are presented in the order proposed in the specification.

Each topic is followed by a response plan to help students prepare for oral storytelling, a list of questions, and a list of useful words and expressions for non-factual topics.

In addition, I often use the materials of the collection when preparing for oral tests in grades 7-9.

Next Benefit GIA-2013. English language(authors - Trubaneva and others) I undoubtedly consider it good, it is this collection that has a disk (there are also just books without disks, also by these authors). It includes:

· Variants of examination paper developed at the federal level;

examination forms and rules for filling them out;

Answers to tasks and criteria for evaluating tasks with a detailed answer;

· short description features of the state final certification in a general education subject.

What can I say, one of the best so far this moment manual, which includes five full-fledged options. It should be obligatory, both from the teacher and the student can be purchased.

The manual of the author Irina Vladimirovna Tofel contains 5 full-fledged tests, there is a disk. But it presents only two parts of the listening (the first is to establish correspondence, and the second contains 4 tasks with the choice of one correct answer out of three proposed).

But still, for training to prepare very good allowance. Optimal tasks in vocabulary and grammar.

This guide is very different from others. Author Marina Alekseevna Bodoni — Preparation for the GIA-9 and the Unified State Examination. Tasks with a detailed answer: personal letter, essay (С1, С2)

With it, you can teach your students how to write personal letters and essays. The author's technique is quite original, there are a lot of exercises that help and develop writing skills.

One of my very first tutorials. I have for 2012. But now it's out of 2013. Although the content is exactly the same. Author — Veselova Yu.A. — GIA-9 English .

There are five variants of the GIA format in the collection, what I like is that the variants correspond to the 2013 demo, and not just an invention of the author.

The set includes two discs. In general, I like it very much!

English language. Grade 9 Preparation for GIA-2013 (authors: Fomenko, Dolgopolskaya). Bought for myself and my students. Tasks of the GIA format, there is a disk. Relatively inexpensive.

So this is a big plus compared to those manuals that contain only five options.

GIA 2013. English. Typical test tasks.

There are 5 versions in this book + a demo version. A big plus is that all manuals, including this, are equipped with a disk.

Collection of training and test tasks. English language. Grade 8 (in GIA format) , author Yu. S. Veselova. There is a disk.

This series includes "gradual" exam preparation. There are books from 6th to 11th grades. I'm in 8th grade.

The structure of the 8th grade allowance:
1. Listening (6 exercises)
2. Reading (12 authentic texts of various genres)
3. Grammar (23 exercises + 3 tests)
4. Use of English (31 exercises, including idioms and phrasal verbs)
5. Writing (formal and informal letters, reviews, describing places, biography)
6. Speaking (tasks for working in pairs and in groups, for practicing monologue and dialogue)

___________________________________________________

Here is that small list of manuals that I use in my work to prepare for the GIA and which I recommend to my students. Of course, I try to update my modest collection, but in recent years they have not changed much.

What benefits do you like the most?

Or even "OGE in English" evoke incredible fear and horror. Do you know why this happens? Out of ignorance, I assure you. Therefore, today we will put everything on the shelves.

The OGE is a very simple exam, if you start preparing for it in advance. One of my students easily passed it with 67 points out of 70. The preparation lasted a year - 2 hour classes a week. The main thing is regular execution typical tasks and analysis of their mistakes. As well as constant reading and listening to audio in English. By the way, you can check yourself by completing tasks from and - in these articles I describe and analyze them in detail.

And now about the structure and requirements...

What is OGE (GIA)?

Every year, 9th grade graduates take 2 compulsory and 2 additional exams in order to either enter other educational establishments, or continue further specialized training at school. At the moment, passing the English language at the OGE is not mandatory - which is about to change. By the way, more and more students are taking it as an elective subject.

  • The minimum score is 20 and the maximum is 70.
  • Time to complete - 90 minutes, not including 6 minutes of speaking.

What changed

There were no significant changes in the test in 2017. However, in accordance with official data, the oral part was brought into line with the oral part of the exam- Now there are 3 tasks.

Now it has become convenient and profitable to purchase textbooks and manuals for training via the Internet. You can always find what you need there and get it quickly. Reliable and time-tested stores:

Exam Structure

  • Listening.

You will have to cope with three sections of the test. In the first part, you need to match 4 dialogues with the answers. Remember that one of them is redundant. The second task is very similar to the first, only now it will be whole expressions. The third task is a dialogue and 6 questions, the answer to which you will have to choose from the options offered.

  • Reading.

Once you have mastered your listening, you move on to the reading section. There are two texts waiting for you. If in the first you need to choose headings for paragraphs, then in the second you need to answer questions about the text.

  • Grammar.

There are 15 sentences waiting for you, where you will need to fill in the gaps with the provided word. But the whole difficulty is that the words will have to be inserted in accordance with different rules. These can be tenses, and conditional mood, and degrees of comparison, and even word formation.

  • Letter.

What you need to do is write a letter to a friend. Of course, it’s not easy to write something “from the bulldozer”. You have three questions that you must answer, as well as a 100-120 character limit.

  • Oral speech.

Remember, my dears, that I am constantly updating relevant materials to help you better cope with any tests, and also ready to answer any of your questions. Leave your comments with questions and I will answer immediately.

The structure of the exam in the GIA format in English

GIA in English is conducted in the format of the main state exam(OGE), which includes tasks of a standardized form.

The OGE in English consists of written and oral parts.

The written part is divided into four sections: "Listening", "Reading", "Grammar and Vocabulary", "Writing". You have 120 minutes to complete the written part of the exam.

Section 1. Listening

This section includes three parts (8 tasks). Time to complete - 30 minutes.

Task number 1. The purpose of this task is to determine the place where this dialogue may take place: cinema, park, hotel, hospital, etc. It is important to remember that there is one extra answer.

Task number 2. In the course of this task, the examinee needs to match each speaker with the thought that he / she expressed.

For example, he/she describes the school library or his/her classroom. This question also has one extra answer.

Tasks No. 3-8. These tasks are aimed at understanding the details and specific information in the monologue/dialogue. There are three possible answers for this question. The examinee must choose the option that corresponds to what they heard. For example, indicate with whom the hero travels or what souvenir he bought.

The maximum score is -15.

Section 2. Reading

This section includes two parts.

Task number 9 consists of seven small texts and eight headings. The examinee needs to match each text with the appropriate heading that best reflects the main idea of the text. 1 title is redundant.

Tasks No. 10-17 are aimed at understanding the text of a narrative nature. After the text, 8 statements are presented. The examinee needs to determine whether the statement is true ( True ), false (False ) or the text says nothing about it ( not stated).

The maximum score is -15.

Section 3. Grammar and vocabulary

This section consists of 9 tasks aimed at the formation of the correct grammatical form of the word and 6 tasks for the lexical transformation of words.

The maximum number of points for completing this section is 15 (1 point for each correct answer).

Section 4. Written speech

This section is represented by one task in which the examinee is required to write a letter of a personal nature in response to the provided letter from a "friend".

This task is evaluated according to the following criteria:

The letter should contain from 100 to 120 words. The recommended time to complete this section of the OGE is 30 minutes. The maximum score is -10.

There are no unreasonable pauses;

No more than five phonetic errors are allowed, including one or two errors that distort the meaning.

Task number 2. Participation in a conditional dialogue-questioning (answers to the questions asked).

During this task, the examinee must answer 6 questions heard in the audio recording on a specific topic (sports, school, healthy lifestyle life, etc.). Questions are asked in the format of a telephone survey public opinion. The answer to each question should not take more than 40 seconds. Each answer is worth 1 point, provided that:

Answer given;

The answer is not a single word or phrase;

There are no errors in the answer that make it difficult to understand.

The maximum score for this task is 6.

Task number 3. Thematic monologue statement with verbal support in the text of the task.

You have 1.5 minutes to prepare for this task. The monologue should last no more than 2 minutes (10-12 phrases). The maximum score for completing this task is 7.

In this task, the examinee must give monologue statements on a specific topic, taking into account the criteria presented in the task.

This type of assignment is evaluated according to the following criteria:

Solving a communicative task (a detailed statement is provided that fully reveals the given topic and accurately reveals the three aspects indicated in the task);

Organization of the statement (the statement must have a logical and complete character; the use of means of logical connection (words-links); the presence of introductory and final phrases);

Language design of the statement (rich vocabulary, correct grammatical and phonetic design of the statement).

The oral response time is 15 minutes per respondent. The maximum score for completing the oral part is 15. The maximum score for successfully passing the OGE in English is 70 points.

2) Means of travel

3) World record holder

4) Sweet in the street

5) On the road

6) A healthy but difficult choice

7) An unusual hobby

8) Conflict over roads

A) The British are enthusiastic about mobility. They think that the ability to travel far and frequently is their right. People can spend up to two or three hours commuting to London or another big city and arrive back at their homes in the countryside only late in the evening. They put up with the long journey because they want their families to avoid the unhealthy lifestyle of big cities.

B) Most journeys to work are made by private road transport. It leads to the pollution so familiar to many big cities, and to traffic jams. Congestion is especially high in Britain because the British do not welcome the idea of building new roads. They don't like living close to them. Each proposal to build a new road is criticized so it's not easy to improve the road situation.

C) Perhaps because the trains were the first means of transport in Britain many people still have a romantic outlook on them. Thousands of train-lovers spend a lot of time looking for information about trains, especially old steam engines. Many enthusiasts spend their free time restoring and repairing old trains. They even earn some money by offering rides to tourists.

D) It is possible to travel between any two towns or cities by either road or rail. In some parts of the country there is a very good rail network but most commercially successful trains run between London and the largest cities in the country. By modern European standards British trains are not fast. Coach services are generally even slower than trains but are much cheaper. It explains why they are still in use.

E)Britain is one of the few countries in Europe where double-decker buses are a common sight. Although single-deckers have been in use since the 1960s, London still has many double-deckers in operation. They are world-famous, an image associated with the city. Another London icon is the black taxi. Normally, these traditional taxis cannot be hired by phone. You simply have to find one on the street.

F)In 1953, most schoolchildren walked to school. For this reason, school crossing patrols were introduced. This ‘patrol’ consists of an adult wearing a bright waterproof coat and carrying a stick with a circle on top of it, which reads ‘STOP’. Armed with this ‘lollipop’, the adult walks out into the middle of the road, stops the traffic and allows the children to cross.

G)On 9 January 2013, the London Underground (or the Tube) celebrated 150 years since the first underground journey. It is both the world's oldest underground railway and the oldest rapid transit system. It was also the first underground railway to operate electric trains. The Underground has 268 stations and 400 km of track, making it the longest metro system in the world by route length.

Marathons

Many Americans enjoy running marathons – a forty-two kilometer race. More than three hundred marathons were held in the United States last year and that number is expected to grow.

The New York City marathon is held every year on the first Sunday of November. It is a big sporting event with thousands of participants. One can see celebrities and famous sportsmen among the marathon runners. A famous cyclist, whose excellent physical condition helped him complete the marathon in less than three hours, admitted that the race was ‘the hardest physical thing he had ever done’.

While the New York City marathon is the biggest, the Boston Marathon is the oldest one. Boston's is held in April. Boston is famous for the fact that Roberta Gibb became the first woman to unofficially run that marathon in 1966. At that time, people did not believe women could run marathons. The Olympics did not hold a women's marathon event until 1984 in Los Angeles, California.

Today's marathons welcome everyone. The popularity of the sport has spread among people who are interested in health and fitness. Many middle-aged people like to spend a weekend visiting a new city and running a marathon there. Some magazines call the middle-aged people of today the ‘marathon generation’. Forty-three percent of marathon runners in the United States are 40 years old or older. There are many organizations for marathoners. Nowadays many local running clubs offer training programs that can prepare runners for the big race.

A marathon really starts several months before the race. You need to run about five days every week to prepare. Most runs should be for half an hour. You should also try to run for an hour or more each Sunday. This is a very basic way for an average runner to prepare.

What you can't prepare for is running in a big marathon with thousands of other participants. A marathon is in many ways a social event. There is a sense of community. The spectators are as much a part of the race as the runners. Almost every age group is present. At the start of the race there is a lot of shouting as the runners want to release some tension. They have three to five hours of hard running ahead of them.

However, there are people who want to run farther. For them ultra-marathons are organized that take running to a different level. An ultra-marathon is any race longer than a marathon. One of the oldest ultra-marathons is held annually in California, USA. It is 160 kilometers long. Last year, 210 people finished the race. The winner, Graham Cooper, finished in eighteen hours and seventeen minutes.

10 Marathons in the USA are held in different seasons.

The ninth planet of the solar system was discovered not long ago. It happened in1930. Scientists had been hunting for the planet for a long time. They had calculated its probable position but there was no proof that the planet really existed. It was too far away for the telescopes of that time to find it. It's worth mentioning that the first photos of the planet were taken by a very young researcher. He was only twenty-four and had no formal education in astronomy. However, he was deeply involved in the search for the ninth planet. The planet at the edge of the solar system was called Pluto, after the Roman god. The name for the planet was suggested by an 11-year-old British girl.

In a foreign language - one of the selective exams for ninth graders. Examination in this subject is chosen by many high school graduates, because the prospect of getting into a specialized linguistic class is quite tempting. Well, the future associated with the use of a foreign language as a professional tool gives a chance to ensure good earnings and a decent standard of living.

Among all foreign languages studied by modern schoolchildren, English holds the palm. This is not surprising, because it is recognized as the language of international business and diplomatic communication. Practice shows that it is not so easy to pass the OGE in this subject - for a good grade, it is not enough to memorize the basic rules and language norms.

In addition to passing a written exam, in 2018 students will demonstrate their listening skills, as well as their ability to speak English. Except self-study and working with a tutor, you should also study the features and structure of the ticket, understand how points will be awarded, and also find out what innovations can await you in KIMs 2018!

Demo version of OGE-2018

OGE dates in English

Rosobrnadzor has already announced an approximate OGE schedule for 2018. Students will take a foreign language (including English) on the following dates:

  • April 28 (Saturday) is scheduled early delivery foreign language. The reserve day will be April 30, 2018 (Tuesday);
  • the main OGE will be held on May 25 (Friday). The reserve day for the main OGE will be June 20, 2018 (Wednesday);
  • an additional day for the delivery of a foreign language will be September 14 (Friday). Booked as a reserve on September 21, 2018 (Friday).

Changes in the OGE in English

In 2018, tickets in English were not subject to changes in terms of structure and content. The subject commission reports that the only innovation was the change in the criteria by which task number 33 (writing a letter of a personal nature) will be evaluated.

What is included in the KIM OGE in English?

The main purpose of the exam is to test the ability of ninth graders to communicate in English. The commission will test your skills in understanding oral speech, the ability to speak, read and write in English. It is the OGE that will determine whether the student is ready for high school education, and will also identify students who can be recommended for grades 10-11 with a linguistic bias. The structure of the ticket can be divided into two parts:

  • written part - sections of the ticket from the first to the fourth. Students will demonstrate their listening comprehension skills (listening), as well as demonstrate English reading skills, writing skills and using lexical and grammatical skills. The maximum points that can be scored for this part of the KIM is 55;
  • oral part - consists of one section, which includes tasks from the speaking part. The maximum that can be obtained for the oral part of the ticket is 15 points.

The correct performance of all the tasks of KIM makes it possible to get 70 points.

Speaking will require not only knowledge of the rules, but also the ability to maintain a dialogue

In most tasks (namely, thirty-two), the student will be able to give a short answer to the question posed by establishing correspondences for the sets, choosing the correct answer from the list provided, filling in the gaps in the text or converting the words into the correct lexical form. Tasks with a detailed answer are writing a personal letter, reading aloud an excerpt from a popular science text, conducting a dialogue with a teacher and a monologue on a given topic. The entire ticket can be structurally divided into the following parts:

  • listening - includes tasks based on phrases used in everyday communication, informational texts and announcements. Each fragment sounds for about one and a half to two minutes and is played twice. The complexity of the tasks is identical to the language level A2;
  • reading - tasks are based on texts of a pragmatic, popular science, journalistic and artistic nature. The volume of the fragment is from 220 to 600 words. The complexity of the tasks corresponds to the language level A2;
  • grammar and vocabulary - tasks that will test the depth of understanding of school material and the ability to operate with it;
  • personal letter - writing a text of at least 100-120 words. Letters with less than 90 words will not be evaluated according to other criteria - the student will immediately receive 0 points for the entire task. It is equally dangerous to write a letter that is too large - if it contains more than 132 words, then the commission will check only the first 120 words in the work, and leave everything else unattended;
  • speaking - tasks involving the use of several types of vocabulary. Be prepared for the fact that you will have to use social vocabulary (talk about leisure activities, relationships with friends, hobbies, prominent cultural or scientific figures, environmental issues, etc.), as well as vocabulary from the educational and labor sphere (a dialogue is possible about the choice of a future profession or the role of a foreign language in different areas of our lives).

Regulations and features of the exam

The student will have to complete the tasks from the first four sections in 120 minutes. At the same time, the profile commission recommends the distribution of time as follows:

  • 30 minutes for listening (section 1);
  • 30 minutes for tasks that test reading skills (section 2);
  • 30 minutes - to identify skills in grammar and vocabulary (section 3);
  • 30 minutes for writing a personal letter and testing other written English skills (section 4).

15 minutes will be allotted for speaking.

Any textbooks and reference materials will have to be handed in before the start of the OGE

Students are not allowed to bring additional materials and subjects that are not related to the exam to the OGE. You can only take a pen with you. All other materials and equipment are provided by Rosobrnadzor - the classrooms will be equipped with technical means for playing audio recordings, and the speaking classes will be equipped with computers, sound recording programs and microphones necessary to record the student's answers.

How are primary scores translated into grades?

Points for examination paper will be transferred to the usual school grading system. The translation scale looks like this:

  • from 0 to 28 points - "unsatisfactory" rating;
  • from 29 to 45 points are translated into the “satisfactory” mark and will allow you to get a certificate;
  • from 46 to 58 points means that the student will receive "good";
  • from 59 to 70 points are identical to the mark "excellent".

When students are assigned to specialized linguistic classes or enrolled in specialized lyceums, students with 56 points or more have an advantage.

Preparation for the OGE in English

Remember: none of the foreign languages, including English, can be passed with a swoop! Only a long and competent preparation for the OGE will give a chance to successfully pass this test. First, identify possible gaps in knowledge - for this you need to download and work through the demo versions of KIMs published by FIPI. Demo versions of tests, files for audition and requirements codifier can be found at the beginning of the article.

Do not forget that knowledge of the rules of the English language is absolutely useless if it is not supported by the ability to perceive speech by ear and speak a foreign language. To prepare for listening, regularly listen to audio books and English-language music, watch movies and TV series in the original dubbing (it is better not to watch videos with subtitles - a line with words will distract your attention from listening to the speech of the characters).

Take enough time to prepare for the OGE - you should start in September

Speaking is another problem for 9th grade graduates. Vocabulary, grammar and writing usually bring students good points, but when conducting a dialogue or monologue, many are lost. To practice speaking, it is worth playing everyday scenes in your head, having small dialogues with friends, sisters, brothers, moms and dads, and also describing in English the situations that have just happened to you in the cinema, supermarkets and buses.
